How we support you
This programme is designed to guide you through the practical side of prescribing with clarity and reassurance. You will be supported through:
One-to-one teaching throughout your placement.
90 hours of clinical supervision with an experienced nurse prescriber.
Supervised consultations and case discussions.

What you will learn
During your supervised practice, you will be guided through the key skills needed for safe, confident prescribing, including:
How to carry out effective patient consultations.
Clinical assessment and diagnosis.
Writing and issuing prescriptions correctly.
Using the BNF, understanding drug groups, dosages and contraindications.
Prescribing governance and your professional legal framework.
You will also gain insight into medications commonly used in aesthetics, with a strong focus on patient safety, suitability and clinical judgement.

Registered Nurses, Midwives, Pharmacists and Allied Health Professionals
Clinicians with at least one year of post-registration experience
Those enrolled on, or applying for, a recognised V300 prescribing course
Professionals working in, or moving into, medical aesthetics or healthcare
Entry requirements
To join the programme, you must:
Hold current NMC or HCPC registration and one year of relevant post-registration experience.
Have a university requirement for supervised practice hours.
Confirm with your university that our clinic and prescriber meet their placement criteria.
Be able to undertake 90 hours of prescribing-related practice learning.
Be domiciled in Scotland.
We are happy to provide supporting documentation for your university where needed.

Meet your Mentor
Your mentorship is delivered by Sinead Johnstone, an award-winning Advanced Aesthetic Nurse Prescriber with a genuine passion for aesthetics, skin care and safe clinical practice.
Sinead founded the clinic in 2020 and continues to practise as a nurse, bringing real, current, hands-on clinical experience to every placement. You will not be handed off to a junior practitioner or left to find your feet. You will work directly with Sinead throughout your time at Emerald.
Your placement takes place at our nurse-led aesthetic clinic in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, a HIS-registered facility offering:
Multiple treatment rooms.
Appropriate practising privileges.
Robust clinical governance and safety standards.
You will be learning in a professional environment that reflects how medical aesthetics should be practised. Safely, ethically and with confidence.

No. Your qualification is awarded by your university, and employment cannot be guaranteed. This programme is designed to support safe, confident professional development and real-world clinical experience.

Your Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP) will be Sinead Johnstone, an experienced nurse prescriber who will oversee your clinical learning and complete the required university sign-offs.
